Fall Fiber Festival & Sheep Dog Trials
Finished Shawl
The 19th Annual Fall Fiber Festival & Sheep Dog Trials was held on the historic grounds of James Madison's Montpelier estate in Orange County, VA on September 7-8, 2006.

BRSWG participated in the "Sheep to Shawl" demonstration. The goal is to educate the public on the processes that are required in order to produce a shawl.

The finished shawl was raffled off to benefit the Blue Ridge Food Bank.

All 300 tickets were sold (much to the delighted surprise of the organizers) for $1 each. The lucky winner of the raffle drawing was Carol Patterson who raises Corriedale sheep.

The actual shawl is woven from Harrisville Shetland wool in the colors garnet and chianti. Rebecca Fox wove a twill pattern from Marguerite Davidson's book called Carol Halvorsen's # 31 with the second treadling variation.

The weft was white Cormo wool spun by Sue Groundwater, Marilyn Jeltes, Gini LaMaster, Toni Dufficy and Pat Kalitka at 14 wraps per inch.
